Our office, as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends that your child visit the dentist by his/her 1st birthday. You can make the first visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive. Your child should be informed of the visit and told that the dentist and their staff will explain all procedures and answer any questions. The less to-do concerning the visit, the better. As you may know, Pediatric Dentistry is a specialty designed to care for your child's special needs. The child patient, in general, requires unique attention not commonly given to adult patients. We will make EVERY possible effort to see that your child enjoys his or her experience. Please take some time and read through our policies. Any questions should be directed to the dentist before treatment has begun. PARENTS IN THE TREATMENT AREA: Parents are encouraged to accompany their children into the treatment area during the exam appointment. The dentist will discuss with you preventative measures and outline any further treatment, if required. You are encouraged to ask questions, but please refrain from talking while the dentist or technician is talking to your child. This helps the dentist to establish a rapport with the child and enhances communication. PREPARING YOUR CHILD FOR A DENTAL PROCEDURE: In discussing dentistry with your child, PLEASE DO NOT use words such as "needle", "hurt" or "drill". Also avoid phrases such as "the dentist isn't going to hurt you" as this may signal that something unpleasant is going to happen. Do not be upset if your child cries. It is completely normal for many children to react to new experiences with tears or by crying. We will do everything to treat your child like we would one of our own. APPOINTMENT CHECK IN: Check in time for appointments is 15 minutes prior to the appointment time. Be sure to check in at the front desk. They will ensure that we know you have arrived. We will make every attempt to see you on time. For your convenience prior to visiting our office, please Click here to print the New Patient Health History Form, complete the information and bring it with you to your first visit. To print the form you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat, please click here to download it for free to your computer.
